Not to be confused with “allot”, a verb that means to distribute, to assign a portion, or to divide. When people use the (non) word alot, what they really mean is “a lot.” A lot (two words) is an informal phrase meaning a large portion or large quantity of something. No doubt you have probably seen it used loads of times in other people’s writing but I assure you, alot is not a word. Why was it then that not a single student in the class received the prize money? The reason is because alot is not a word. No, I am sure every student in the class grabbed each dictionary he or she could find, scouring* the pages for those four letters all in a row. Of course, not a single one of us was paid the $10 and not through lack of trying.
All we had to do was find the word in a dictionary. $10 was a lot of money for someone in the 4th grade and who could believe that a teacher was offering to pay it to us. “I will give any of you that can find this word in a dictionary, $10,” she said before sitting down again. But instead, all that appeared on the board was that string of four letters. No doubt we all expected her to write the date, her name or maybe even the class rules.
A WORD FOR NOT TRANSPARENT FULL
We sat at our desks full of optimism and anticipation and then the teacher, whose name I can’t remember, stood up and wrote something on the blackboard. We all entered the classroom complete with fresh supplies of notebooks, folders, pencils and glue. On the Picture Format tab, select Color, and then select Set Transparent Color.Ĭlick the color in the picture or image that you want to make transparent.I’ll never forget my first day of fourth* grade. Select the picture for which you want to change the transparency of a color. In an electronic display, such as a web page, transparent areas are the same color as the background. Transparent areas in pictures are the same color as the paper on which they are printed. You can make one color in a picture transparent to hide part of the picture or create a layered effect. Under Picture Transparency, drag the transparency slider rightward to set the exact percentage of transparency you want, or set a percentage value in the box. The Format Picture pane opens on the right side. Select one of the preset options, or select Picture Transparency Options at the bottom for more detailed choices. Select the Picture Format or Shape Format tab, and then select Transparency. Select the picture or object for which you want to change the transparency. In the Insert Picture dialog box, locate the picture that you want, select it, and then select Insert.Ĭhange the transparency of a picture or fill color In the The Format Shape dialog box, under Fill, select Picture or texture fill, then select File. Right-click the shape and select Format Shape. Insert a picture, inside a shape, at the precise size you want, and then adjust its transparency: You can vary the percentage of transparency from 0 (fully opaque, the default setting) to 100% (fully transparent).
With the picture now showing inside the shape, in the Format Picture dialog box, move the Transparency slider rightward (or enter a number in the box next to the slider) to adjust the picture as you see fit. Keep the dialog box open to adjust the transparency. You may need to move the Format Picture dialog box to see it. The picture is added to slide, inside the shape. In the Insert Picture dialog box, find your picture, select it, and then select Insert. In the Format Shape dialog box, under Fill, select Picture or texture fill, then select File. Right-click the shape again and select Format Shape. You can make adjustments to the appearance of your picture by resizing your shape or by using the Offset settings below the transparency slider.ĭraw a shape first, fill it with a picture, and then adjust the picture's transparency: Also, some pictures may not fit perfectly into certain shapes. If you change the original size ratio of your shape by dragging it, the picture you insert into the shape may be skewed. Move the Transparency slider in the Format Shape pane to adjust the picture. Select the picture and then select the Insert button.
